Short CV:

Pere Ortí Gost (Barcelona, ??1963) is a professor of medieval history at the University of Girona, member of the Centre de Recerca d’Història Rural of the Institut de Recerca Històrica of the UdG and has been a predoctoral fellow and doctor linked to the Institució Milà i Fontanals, of the CSIC. He studied at the University of Barcelona, ??where he graduated in medieval history in 1986 and obtained his doctorate in medieval history under the supervision of Manuel Sánchez Martínez in 1998. His first line of research has been the study of Royal domain and Royal, State and Urban taxation in medieval Catalonia. The publications of this line of research include the edition, in collaboration with M. Sánchez, of the taxation documents of the Catalan Parliament of the fourteenth century (Corts, parlaments i fiscalitat a Catalunya: els capítols del donatiu (1288-1384)), the case study on the city of Barcelona (Renda i fiscalitat en una ciutat medieval: Barcelona, ??segles XII-XIV, Ciutat de Barcelona Prize in 2001) and several articles on the first general taxes in Catalonia (Una primera aproximació als fogatges catalana de la dècada de 1360; La primera articulación del estado feudal en Cataluña a través de un impuesto: el bovaje (siglos XII-XIII)  and Les Impositions municipales à la Catalogne du XIVe siècle). He has also participated in a Spanish-French research project, directed by D. Menjot and M. Sánchez, on municipal taxation in the Western Mediterranean. Since 1990 he has been a member of several R + D research projects funded by the corresponding Spanish Ministry; of a Grup de Recerca consolidat “Renda feudal i fiscalitat a la Catalunya baixmedieval”, funded by the Generalitat de Catalunya, which he is currently directing; and of several international projects funded by the CSIC and the CNRS. In 2004 he obtained a Distinction from the Generalitat de Catalunya for the Promotion of University Research in the category of young researchers that allowed the beginning of a new line of research on the relationship between the small towns and his rural environment in the Northeastern Catalonia. Within this line of research, he has directed three research projects on credit, rent and markets in small cities (HAR2008-05757, HAR2011-27121, and HAR2014-54205-C2-2P). Publications of this line of research include: La deuda pública municipal en una pequeña ciudad del nordeste catalán: Sant Feliu de Guíxols durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIV, Els remences i l’exercici de la jurisdicció als segle XIV i XV: una lluita pel poder politic, Pagesos de Caldes de Malavella, mercaders de Sant Feliu de Guíxols i consellers reials: l’espectacular ascens de la família Pujada durant el segle XIV, Noves dades seriades per a noves hipòtesis sobre la crisi baixmedieval a Catalunya and, in collaboration with Lluís To, Serfdom and Standards of Living of the Catalan Peasantry before and after the Black Death of 1348.
